Blory#2, The Egg That Could Fly

The egg we are going to talk about in this story is not just any egg. It is a very special egg, that was manufactured by the greatest minds that have ever lived. Scientists had tinkered with its DNA by melding human and bird genes together and their objective was to create a human that could fly. The egg was their 522nd experiment, and all the ones before had either produced abhorrent mutations of a human and bird or had never hatched. The scientists were sure that this one was sure to be a success, it had to be! They scurried around the lab making the final preparations for its hatching and failed to notice the girl hidden in the shadows watching their every move...

Zach was a normal guy, well, at least in his terms. All he did was study and try to appease his parents who were famous astronauts but it never worked. He was a loner because everyone in his school thought that he was snotty and a brat because he had famous and rich parents. But as long as he was secretly working on a project that would blast him into space and beyond, he didn't care what others thought of him. His shuttle would take him on an adventure that would far surpass those of other people! He wouldn't have to live unacknowledged and his parents and the people at school would finally recognize him as a real man. Grown up and ready to take on the world!
Zach shook his head to rid himself of his dreams and returned to the present. He had to finish his invention before his parent's birthday. His agile hands flew over his contraption and as he assembled the parts meticulously a lock of his sandy brown hair fell in front of his eyes. He brushed it away in annoyance but as more hair fell, the irritated Zach had to stand up to stretch his lanky limbs and fix his hair. He caught a glimpse of his hazel coloured eyes in the mirror and his inventions in the display case behind him. He smirked and envisioned the amazing shuttle that would help him discover new habitable planets that humans could live on when it was completed. The muffled sound of a car door being slammed yanked him out of his daydreams and Zach hurriedly carried the invention out the back door and stuffed it into some bushes. He rushed back inside to greet his parents and to pretend that he had been working on his homework the whole time.

The girl eyed the boy as he entered back into the house. Her muddled head decided that the contraption that he had poorly concealed would be a good hiding spot and as she staggered over to it, the many wounds she had received from the struggle with the scientists after she had been caught stealing the egg bled heavily. She collapsed into the bushes and fell into a deep dreamless sleep with her body curled around the egg.

"Hey Zach, what have you been doing?" His mother's head popped out from behind the door.
"Nothing Mum, just finishing up my homework" Zach replied.
"I heard you had your math test returned to you, can I see it?"
"Umm...sure..." He hesitantly said. He turned around to grab his backpack and pulled out his crumpled math test. A feeling of dread started to build up inside of him as the slip of paper left his hands and entered his mother's.
"Zach..."she began,"I expected better than this. We've been over this so many times. Can't you just understand my feelings?" She flipped over the paper to show Zach the number that he had received on the test. A big fat 99 in red pen was circled the top of the paper."It should be easy for you to get perfect. Why can't you make that happen?" Zach stayed silent ashamed of himself. His mother stared at him waiting for an answer but she gave up after a few moments. "Try to get perfect on you next test OK honey?" She stood up and gave him a kiss on the forehead and left the room.
Zach sat there for a while doing nothing until he heard a strange rustling outside."Strange," he thought, "could there be an animal in the garden?" He stood up and looked through his window. He could see nothing but just as he was about to dismiss the rustling as a figment of his imagination, he heard it again. This time, he saw a thin pair of legs peeking out from under a bush. He bolted down the stairs to investigate the mysterious thing he had seen and just before he reached the back door, he paused and started to sneakily tiptoe to the pair of legs. As he approached, the legs made no signs of movement and just as he was about to bend down and grab the legs, they shot back into the bush and a pair of green eyes opened and stared out at him. A thin arm snaked out from between the branches and seized his hand. Zach sat there stunned at the speed at which it had happened until a hoarse voice whispered urgently, "My name is Calypso, please save me."
